Playstack releases award-winning game - AK-xolotl

14 September 2023

TruFin is pleased to announce that its subsidiary Playstack Limited ("Playstack"), the leading UK games publisher, has released its latest title, AK-xolotl, developed by Barcelona-based 2Awesome Studio.

Out today on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, the award-winning AK-xolotl combines two popular genres, offering the freedom of procedurally generated biomes and the care and quality experience of hand-crafted layouts.

Playing as an immortal axolotl, gamers shoot their way to securing food and resources, before returning to their home to customise their base, cook meals and unlock new areas. Players can also raise baby axolotls, which become playable characters.

Declared ‘unmissable’ by Forbes.com, AK-xolotl won eSports.com/eFernsehen ‘Best Indie Game’ at last month’s coveted Gamescom awards and was runner-up in the ‘Most Entertaining’ category.

Harvey Elliott, Chief Executive Officer, Playstack, commented:
AK-xolotl is an award-winning and refreshing take on the shoot-em-up genre, combining the traditional fun of roguelikes with the mass appeal of cute mascots. 2Awesome Studio have done an amazing job opening up the roguelike genre, welcoming a new generation of fans from all backgrounds to engage with the high-energy game mechanics, quality artwork and tongue-in-cheek humour.”

David Jiminez, Creative Director and Co-Founder, 2Awesome Studio, said:
“After two years in development, we are delighted to finally put AK-xolotl into players’ hands. Since first announcing the game back in 2021 we have amassed a magnificent fanbase which has supported us on every step of the journey. We can’t wait for everyone else to try AK-xolotl today and get to experience our creation first-hand!”

Following today’s launch, Playstack expects to extend its roster of compelling and engaging PC and console titles further, with gothic metroidvania thriller The Last Faith launching in Q4, and two further titles due out in Q1 2024.
